Mobile Marketing is communicating with the consumer via a mobile device. It is more personal, more targeted, more immediate, and more actionable than other forms of web marketing.
In regards to retailers and business owners, it is active interaction with the customer (with the customer’s permission) at the right time and at the right place with the right message. The goal is to reach the customer or potential customer in a way that adds value to their day. This communication is conducted one customer at a time.
The mobile devices used can range from a basic flip phone to more elaborate smartphones, and iPhones. They can also be PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants) or Tablet PCs (portable computers that are smaller than laptops). Sony’s hand-held game device PSPs (PlayStation Portables) and other gaming units are also considered mobile devices because they can access the internet through Wi-Fi and are often used away from home.
Mobile is a unique mass media. It is cheaper than traditional means for both the consumer and the marketer. Mobile marketing is a streamlined version of traditional eMarketing and it’s weaving its way into society more quickly than the Internet did.
“Wireless technology is an integral part of everyday life for more than 87% of the U.S. population; changing and improving the way we connect and interact with the world around us,” said Steve Largent, President & CEO of CTIA -The Wireless Association®.
